A year in the life of Mixology Group

January 11, 2013

Since we had time to write our last blog things have gone from strength to strength for us. We started 2012 by opening our very own bespoke bartending school in Brighton. Close to Brighton beach, 10 minutes from the train station and only 40 mins from London.
We now offer courses to bartending enthusiasts, from 2 days train the trainer courses, to the 5 day global bartender certificate.
As we have one of the leading trainers in molecular mixology ‘Myles Cunliffe’ as a Director we also offer training for bartenders in this area.
As well as this we offer consumers a chance to learn the basics with cocktail Masterclasses, molecular Masterclasses and spirit tasting sessions.

2012 also saw us caught up in the excitement of the Olympics. We were lucky enough to be working with Smart Hospitality at the VIP hospitality centre where we had Mixologists on each bar over the 2 weeks. Our bartenders got to serve some of the top athletes as well as their families and friends.

We have also been continuing our mission to involve the bartenders and public of Brighton and now Kingston Upon Thames into the world of cocktails. As well as taking over the running of all of the Brighton food and drink festival bars & Kingston food fest, we have also run our 3 cocktail competitions, the mix off competitions.
We had sponsorship for our Bloody Mary Mix Off from the fabulous Belvedere Vodka, this saw bartenders across town enter recipes for the their own twists on the Bloody Mary and the public, over the course of the month went on the Bloody Mary trail and casted votes for their favourites.

In Kingston we got the local bar staff involved with the help of Havana Especial and had an afternoon in Las Iguanas tasting and judging to find the best bar tender in Kingston.

On a larger scale in August / September we ran the Mix Off in conjunction with Kraken spiced Rum, this saw local bartenders creating videos of their own creations and again the public were able to cast their vote. The 4 finalists were then invited to run their own bar at our Mix Off event at Brighton Sealife Centre, where the public came along to taste cocktails from each bar with drinks made from our 4 sponsors for the night, Kraken Spiced Rum by Havana 8yr, Tuaca and Devils Cut Whisky and vote for the winner.

So what does 2013 hold for us? It promises more eye catching Molecular Events, More fabulous parties for fabulous people and see’s us running our 1st Mix Off Comp of the year on 30th & 31st March!
